A rain plan that you can actually use

Choose a rain backup by its entry rules: walk-in, timed ticket or advance booking. Establish whether your whole group can enter and how much time remains after travelling before paying for a second plan.

Civil Defence Heritage Gallery: choose the gallery, not the whole complex

Civil Defence Heritage Gallery ↗

SCDF explicitly welcomes walk-in visits to its heritage gallery. Its firefighting and civil-defence displays include interactive stations, giving the visit a subject to explore rather than simply a place to wait out the weather. It is a useful format when you have not arranged a guided programme.

The tradeoff: The gallery is closed on Mondays. Guided tours need booking, and the co-located Emergency Preparedness Centre does not accept walk-ins. Do not assume a gallery visit includes a fire-station open house: those are separate arrangements. Check the current establishment notices before travelling.

Joy of Toys: a child-led option, with a capacity check first

Joy of Toys ↗

This indoor toy-play venue distinguishes its main play space from its toddler space, so the format is worth considering when children need something to do rather than another exhibition to look at. It accepts visitors on a first-come, first-served basis, with no set admission sessions.

The tradeoff: You cannot reserve a place, and entry is capacity-limited. Check the provider's crowd information close to departure, without treating it as a held place. Wednesdays are closed, and both children and accompanying adults need socks. Confirm the suitable play space and current admission conditions for your family.

Asian Civilisations Museum: choose a subject before choosing a ticket

Asian Civilisations Museum ↗

The museum's themed galleries cover maritime trade, faith and belief, and materials and design. That gives a mixed-interest group a way to agree on what to see instead of trying to cover everything. Its visitor page provides a ticket route and self-guided resources for planning the visit.

The tradeoff: Check what your selected admission covers and leave enough time: gallery admission ends 30 minutes before closing. A ticket link is not proof of a same-day place in every programme. This is an indoor destination, not a verified all-weather route from your starting point.

Change the plan in the right order

First, check what happens to the outing you already arranged. Rain does not by itself establish a refund or a change of date. Read the provider's weather and cancellation instructions before buying replacement tickets, and keep the original booking details available. If you have no booking to protect, you can focus on the new outing without that extra decision.

Then reduce the choice to something the group can agree on quickly: independent browsing, a shared tabletop activity, or child-led play. The replacement does not have to resemble the original outing. It needs to suit the people who are already coming and the time they have left.

Walk-in, reservation and ticket are different commitments

Walk-in access means you can try without an advance booking; it does not mean that capacity is waiting for you. A reservation request can have its own confirmation rules. A ticket can specify a session, an exhibition or an arrival window rather than unrestricted use of the venue. Read the actual entry route instead of treating every Book Now button as the same thing.

When comparing options, ask what would make the trip fail: a closure day, a full room, a missed admission cutoff, or a ticket that excludes the thing you want to see. Eliminate those mismatches before debating which activity looks most exciting. Keep an alternative format in mind if the first choice cannot accommodate you.

Choose for the people who are coming

With friends, decide whether the point is to talk, concentrate on a game or look around independently. At an exhibition, agree whether splitting up briefly is fine, rather than spending the visit waiting for each other.

With children, check the play format, accompaniment rules and what adults need to bring. A family label does not establish suitability for every child. Verify any entrance or facilities requirements rather than relying on the word indoors.

Count the journey as part of the plan

An indoor destination can still involve an exposed approach. Check your actual route, not just the nearest station's name. Leave room for a slower arrival, then compare the usable time left with the admission cutoff. A simpler plan may beat rushing across town.

Save advance-booked workshops and games for a day when you can meet their booking conditions. The activity guides can help with that next decision; an unverified slot is not a rain backup.

Before you decide

Can I assume an indoor workshop will take a same-day booking?

No. Check the exact session's booking cutoff, minimum enrolment and confirmation process. A general workshop page or calendar does not establish that the provider can run it for your group today.

Should I book a second activity before cancelling the outdoor one?

Read the original booking's weather and change rules first. Establish what you would owe for each decision, then choose the replacement. Rain alone does not establish a refund entitlement.
